Welcome to MushingMegan.com
The cutest dog in the world, best lead dog ever, and the love of my life is Kateel, and I am her owner, Megan :) Kateel and I met my first winter in Alaska, and with her help we have aquired 10 more
dogs. We have spent the last 4 years mushing around the beautiful state of Alaska! I love Alaska, I hope you will enjoy seeing and reading about all the amazing adventures that can be had!
Kateel and I met on the Tanana River. I had been out skijoring with my first dog Einer, when I ran into a musher on the river who we followed for a ways. He stopped and offered to let me run with one of his old leaders, and that old girl was Kateel! After the run, I was ecstatic! She was AMAZING! The musher, who turned out to be a professor for the university, asked if I wanted to borrow her for the winter to help train Einer! That evening, I got home, a bit nervous to tell my landlord that I got another dog (I had to ask really nicely to have him allow the first...) His response set the rest of my life in motion, he said, "if you get two more dogs, I'll give you a sled." The next week, I had two more dogs! That first winter was incredible. I didn't have a clue what I was doing, but my faithful leader Kateel showed us the way. The next winter, the team grew to 10. Last winter, I handled for a team of 56. Now, I am on the glacier with 240 sled dogs, and lots of little puppies. Life is great!
I am originally from Chatfield, Minnesota. I have been living near Fairbanks, Alaska, for the last three years while completing my Master's in Biology at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in Biology and Environmental Sciences.
Animals have always been a part of my life growing up in Minnesota. We always have had lots of dogs and cats, as well as the occasional pig, cow and chickens! Often times they were animals that I would bring home or hide somewhere in an outbuilding on our small farm. My mom and dad are secretly relieved that I am too far away for my dogs and I to come to visit!

This summer I have an awesome job working as a dog musher on the Denver Glacier for Alaska Icefield Expeditions. It is incredible! All day we get to hang out with the pups and mush dogs in the most spectacular place on earth. And my little sister Rachel moved to Alaska this summer to work as a photographer on the glacier with me!

Please check my website often for updates and pictures. There is no internet connection while on the glacier so I will be updating the web site about once a week when I am on the ground. My mom, Sheila, will also be adding information, pictures, and who knows what else! She helped with the White Mountains Kennel website when I was the dog-handler for Terry Williams on the Yukon Quest this year, and she did awesome work! She is great at doing this! Thanks Mom!
